I have been a primary school teacher for many years and have taught all age groups, specialising in English and later on, special needs. I have recently taken early retirement. I know how busy you are & how hard you work. I aim to produce the resources you would have made yourself, if you had had the time. If you have bought any of my resources, I would really appreciate it if you would review them. Many thanks!

'Commas to Separate Items in a List' in a description of a celebration

Children watch the PPT or Smart board presentation showing pictures of a birthday party. They discuss their best party ever - where it would be, who they would invite, what they would eat and what their favourite presents would be. They do this orally, or on whiteboards, using the picture prompts, thinking carefully about where the commas should go. They then write a paragraph describing the party, using the given sentence openers. There is a check list to help them to remember to use commas correctly. Finally, they could go on to write a descriptive paragraph about another celebration using commas in a similar way, such as Christmas Day or another festival or another person's birthday. Fully editable. For further resources see - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

An introductory ppt explains what paragraphs are. A further ppt explains how we use them in fiction / story writing. There are several activities including deciding why a new paragraph is needed. Children then have to sort a description of a ghostly house into two paragraphs. They use this as a story opening and continue the story, starting a new paragraph when appropriate. The activities on the ppt are also provided as worksheets, as well as an easier version. Fully editable. Feedback and suggestions welcomed! Worksheets presented on a ppt with 5 pages, each showing a different rule for the past tense. Children use the given sport themed verbs to make up their own sentences in the past tense, using the picture prompts to help them. Although designed to be used as worksheets it could be shown to the whole class to explain what to do and as an oral exercise. It can be photocopied as individual worksheets or printed and laminated for use with small groups or for working independently. It is all completely editable. The aim is to help children to get familiar with different past tense verb endings by making up their own sentences, therefore using them more in their own work.
